Will Hays Lifetime Support of Veterans Nomination Form

Sponsorship Information

It is time to select the 2015 San Diego County Veteran of the Year (VOY). Each year, The Veterans Museum at Balboa Park sponsors the Veteran Recognition Luncheon in November where veterans nominated as Veteran of the Year for San Diego County are honored and the San Diego County Veteran of the Year for the upcoming year is named. NDIA member companies and organizations are asked to consider recognizing one of their veterans as their VOY and nominate him/her for county VOY selection. The nominee must be a Veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces (not on active duty) and a resident of or work in San Diego County.

Once an organization nominates a veteran, a panel of judges will select a San Diego County VOY based on the nomination package submitted. This veteran will represent all county veterans at various events including parades, Padre and Charger games, and other special events in our area during the ensuing year. The current San Diego County VOY is Bill York, an Army Veteran of the Iraq combat arena. Recent selectees include RanDee McLain (USN), and first post 9/11 VOY, Joe Brunner (USN), Virgil Whitehead (USDMC) and Bill Paxton (USMC).

Another category for veteran recognition is the “Will Hays Lifetime Support of Veterans“ award. A veteran must have provided over 10 years of support to Veterans and Veteran’s concerns to be eligible for consideration. And lastly, a corporation or “for-profit” organization that supports veterans and active duty military will be recognized. The company selected by the judges will receive the “Meritorious Support of Veterans” Award. Recent recipients include Walmart, Home Depot, Life Technologies, Kratos Defense & Security, Qualcomm, Pure Bio Science, Old Town Trolley and BAE Systems.

All nominees and selectees for each category will be announced at the luncheon on Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Mission Valley. Nominating organizations are asked to bring their VOY to this luncheon to receive his/her due recognition. Additional nomination details can be found on the nomination form or at www.veteranmuseum.org.

NDIA encourages its members to participate in this recognition of Veterans in our community and invite you to become a sponsor to support efforts by the Veterans Museum.
