Mavis J. Machniak

Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Pacific

Mrs. Mavis Machniak is head of the Logistics and Fleet Support Department at Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Pacific. She leads a technical workforce of over 700 civilian and military specialists, engineers and scientists. She is responsible for the fielding and sustainment of command, control, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems.

Mrs. Machniak began her Federal service career at Naval Electronic Systems Engineering Center, Vallejo. As a project engineer and lead, she worked with US Marine Corps communications and command & control vans. She then served with Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command as an acquisition program manager, establishing commercial satellite as a formal program-of-record. In 1994, she was promoted to branch head of Meteorological and Oceanographic (METOC) systems in-service engineering and software support activities.

In 2000, Mrs. Machniak became head of the Joint Integrated Systems Division at SSC Pacific, overseeing tactical radios and data links, surface surveillance, submarine electronic support, METOC and force protection systems. She also served as SSC Pacific’s New Professional (NP) Coordinator from 2007-2009, conducting STEM recruitment, hiring and outreach, and was acting supervisor & mentor to newly-hired NPs. She was selected as the Logistics and Fleet Support Department Head in 2012.

Mrs. Machniak holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Fresno and is a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps and certified Level III in Systems Planning, Research, Development and Engineering. She has received numerous awards, including the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Award.
