Gold Coast 2019 was another successful event for NDIA SD Chapter STEM Committee and their Robotic Demonstration at Gold Coast. Located at the San Diego Convention Center Downtown, the kids and their robots took up a large section of the exhibit hall for their demonstration and once again both Industry and Government spent a good amount of time in the robotics section meeting with the students and their robots.

Vice Admiral Michael T. Moran, Principal Military Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Research, Development and Acquisition), and Mr. Jimmy Smith, Director, DON Office of Small Business Programs met with the students and their robots.

The Teams were invited to attend the Gold Coast luncheon and speaker presentations which they thoroughly enjoyed. The students were sat with Industry and Government attendees for lunch to foster conversations with the students about careers in STEM and how robotics is a growing field in both industry and the Department of Defense.

Robotic Teams in attendance included; FIRST Team Paradox led by Natalie Negulescu, Rise of Hephaestus led by Tom Bosworth, Inspiration team – FTC11128 led by Alex Szeto, Rebuildion led by Chunyan Lin, Team 1622 FIRST
Ceramics/Team Spyder led by Todd Parr, and Green Griffins / Cerulean Centaurs led by Stacey Ganzer.

Special thanks to Mike Parente, Gold Coast Chair and Jim Lasswell, NDIA Small Business Chair for opening up the Gold Coast Small Business Procurement Event to the Robotic Teams and to Lillian Maestas, NDIA STEM Chair for coordination.
